About Nancy

Nancy Elliott was born in Duncan, OK to Willis B. “Buster” Barrick and Leona “Bea” Brown Barrick. Her grandfather, Nathaniel Brown, and her great-grandfather, Charles A. Brown, were original enrollees. She has always been proud of her Chickasaw heritage.

She, her brother and four sisters grew up in Lindsay, OK where their dad, Buster, worked in the oil field business and their mom stayed home to raise the kids.

Mrs. Elliott attended public schools in Velma, Lindsay, and Oklahoma City. She graduated from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City 1967 and married Robbie Elliott in 1968. The couple had three children: Nathan, Robyn and Rachel, and were married for 36 years. Robbie passed away in 2004 of heart disease.

While raising her family, Mrs. Elliott returned to college. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1983 and a master’s degree in 1988. She taught in the Ada, OK Public School System for 26 years and retired from teaching in 2010. As a public school teacher, she was awarded over $6,000 in grants from the Ada City Schools Foundation for innovative projects that gave her students exciting educational experiences over and above the normal curriculum.

Mrs. Elliott served on the planning committee for the 2008 CNASA Space Camp and was a judge for the 2007-2008 Chickasaw Princess Pageant. In 2007, she was honored with an invitation to participate as a panelist on the Chickasaw Nation’s Dynamic Women’s Forum.

Over the years, Mrs. Elliott has been involved in many volunteer civic activities. She served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader for two troops for 10 years while her daughters were growing up. She has been actively involved in the Women’s Ministry of her church and has been a youth Sunday School teacher for many years.

In 2009, she won election to Seat 2 of the Tribal Legislature, and she was re-elected in 2012, 2015 and 2018.

Nancy has worked diligently while serving in the legislature. She currently serves as the Chairperson of the Finance committee while also serving as an active member of the executive, human resources, code development and education committees.
